Dear Mr. Secretary:

We write on behalf of all Haitian Americans, the population of Haiti that has been suffering under a budding dictator and in the names of all people of good conscience, to demand that the United States take immediate action to remove Jovenel Moïse from power in Haiti; and to immediately provide security to Judge Wendelle Coq Thélot, whose life is in imminent danger from a murderous dictator.

On Saturday night, Mr. Moïse ordered the arrest of sitting Supreme Court Judge Yvickel Dabrésil on trumped-up charges of participating in a coup d’état, just because his name had been mentioned as a candidate to succeed President Moïse, whose constitutional term was ending on Sunday, February 7. No warrant was needed to arrest the judge who, reportedly, was savagely beaten. Judge Coq Thélot, also mentioned as a possible successor to Jovenel Moïse is currently in hiding while murderous gang members working for Mr. Moïse are searching for her.

Increasingly, the situation is getting more deadly, as Jovenel Moise desperately tries to hang onto power. Moïse’s gang members, dressed in Haitian police uniforms and using police gears, are committing atrocities, including extra judicial killings.

Last month alone, some 60 people were kidnapped by criminal gangs associated with Jovenel Moïse. The life and property of Haitian citizens and of Haitian Americans living in Haiti are in grave danger. More people are bound to die if the Biden administration does not take immediate action to rid Haiti of the cancer that is Jovenel Moïse.

We implore you to move swiftly to ensure that Moïse leave Haiti as soon as possible. Any delay will result in more unnecessary deaths and destructions.
