TRUENEWSBLOG – The Department of Homeland Security has officially terminated the Migrant Protection Protocols, also known as “Remain In Mexico,” initiated under President Donald Trump. The Remain In Mexico policy enabled immigration agencies like ICE and Border Patrol to keep illegal aliens in Mexico while waiting for their immigration court date in the U.S.

As one of his first acts as President, Joe Biden foolishly suspended the Migrant Protection Protocols in January, expanding the scope of the Biden border crisis overnight, but DHS instructed immigration officials on Tuesday that they will no longer be enforcing the mandate.

According to the new memo, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, tasked by Biden to “review” the effectiveness and impact of Remain In Mexico, erroneously stated that the program did not “adequately or sustainably enhance border management.” The memo concluded:

I direct DHS personnel to take all appropriate actions to terminate MPP, including taking all steps necessary to rescind implementing guidance and other directives or policy guidance issued to implement the program.

Implemented in 2019, approximately 67,000 aliens were enrolled in the MPP after either submitting asylum claims at U.S. ports of entry or being caught illegally crossing the U.S. border before submitting an asylum claim.

In the past, illegal aliens who submitted asylum claims were allowed to enter the U.S. for months to sometimes years while the immigration courts worked through their case. The aliens were often given work permits to compete with lower-skilled American laborers and often ‘missed’ their immigration court dates – disappearing into the country.

Under the MPP, these aliens would wait out the time it took the immigration courts to settle their asylum case – in Mexico, diminishing the unnecessary job competition for vulnerable American workers and the possibility of illegal aliens disappearing into the U.S. after refusing to show up to court or ignoring the court’s verdict.

In mid-May, 20 GOP governors sent a letter to the administration, calling on officials to “take action” on the Biden border crisis. “Contrary to statements from your Administration, the border is neither closed nor secure,” the governors said. Now, half a month later, DHS and the rest of the Biden Administration continue to lie to the American people – claiming that the border is “closed and secure” as they systematically dismantle the very protections that allowed for actual border security.
